Business telephone systems
Using TTYs with PABX telephone systems
Yes, TTYs can be connected to PABX telephone systems.
However, it must only be into an analogue extension
socket suitable for FAX machines or dial-up modems. These lines
are the same as those used for home phones.
TTYs cannot be plugged into a digital extension
socket; they simply will not work.
If you cannot find a spare analogue socket, you
may need to contact your PABX supplier to arrange to have one installed,
or to convert an existing one.
The alternative is to have an external line
installed that doesn’t go through the PABX system, and which
will have it’s own phone number, independent of the PABX system.
