INNOVATIONS
Turbo Code®
An enhanced communication protocol that lets you send and receive information
via TTY as fast as it is typed. Turbo Code also allows you to interrupt
one another during your conversation providing both TTYs are operating
in turbo code.
Voice
Carry Over (VCO)
VCO allows people who are deaf or hard of hearing to use their voice
when talking over the telephone and speak for himself or herself directly
to the other person. They then read the other person's text response
on their TTY or Uniphone display screen.
Hearing
Carry Over (HCO)
HCO allows you to type to the other person using the keyboard and listen
to the other persons voice reply using the handset. The Uniphone automatically
switches from voice to text.
Auto ID
Automatically alerts everyone that you are calling via a TTY. This may
eliminate confusion and accidental hang-ups, and can save valuable time
in an emergency situation.
T SWITCH
The importance of the telecoil or T switch in
a hearing aid.
A hearing aid, with an in-built telecoil or T switch, affords the wearer
access to a range of benefits derived from assistive listening devices
- equipment specifically designed and manufactured for compatibility
with a hearing aid T switch. Using a T switch enables sound to the hearing
aid direct from an audio loop system or telecoil in-built into the Uniphone
1150 TTY amplified telephone. Access sounds like the TV, radio or conversation
with greater clarity by using a T switch/ hearing aid in conjunction
with a specifically designed assistive listening device. Check your
hearing aid or remote control for the T switch (telecoil).
What type of assistive listening devices / equipment are commonly chosen
by hearing impaired people?
- Uniphone 1150 text telephone and volume controlled telephone.
- Oticon Amigo Amplified Sound System FM from Phonic Ear.
- Home room audio loop and communicator from Phonic Ear.
- The Sennheiser range of products.
If you have a hearing loss, whether you wear a hearing aid or not, Printacall
demonstrate and sell a range of assistive listening devices through our
showroom at Denistone East. An appointment is preferred but not necessary
in all cases, but its best to arrive before 4pm to ensure you have enough
